  • North Carolina's Northeast counties provide development opportunities tied to the Hampton Roads metropolitan area, but also unique in character.  On August 9, 2011 Raymond K. White of North Carolina's Northeast Commission spoke at a ULI breakfast about economic development in Northeast North Carolina.  He emphasized that Hampton Roads is their closest urban area, and that northeast North Carolina is connected to us by an excellent transportation infrastructure. Read his presentation  for more information on shared business opportunities.

  • On June 29, at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott, ULI convened three of the most influential players in the region's transportation space to discuss the state of infrastructure in Hampton Roads and to describe the actions they are taking to improve upon it. The program was headlined by Rachel MacCleery, ULI Managing Director Infrastructure, who summarized the ULI/Ernst & Young annual report on the state of infrastructure in the United States and around the world. Her findings suggested that the U.S. lacks a comprehensive infrastructure improvement strategy, with transportation topping the list of deficiencies. In contrast to this national picture, the panelists responded with descriptions of dynamic projects happening at the local level to improve road, shipping, and air transportation. Consistent with ULI Hampton Roads' mission, the program served to educate the attendees about trends that will impact land uses today and into the near future. The presentations of the panelists are here for the benefit of ULI members and website guests that were not able to attend the program.
